Overview
This internship focuses on geospatial information management within the Geospatial Analysis and Programme Delivery Section, supporting research on drugs and crime by assisting with data collection, analysis, and map production.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, management, analysis and quality control of geospatial data related to drug and crime research.
- Assist in the presentation of geographic information through static and dynamic (web-based) maps and story maps, applying innovative techniques and design approaches.
- Contribute to the integration of geospatial information into ongoing research activities of the Branch.
- Assist in developing guidelines and protocols for map production and geospatial processing workflows.
- Contribute to liaison with universities, research centres, and UN networks to support cooperation on geospatial related research.
- Keep abreast of emerging technologies and innovations in GIS and cartography.
Required Experience
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
- Applicants must have practical experience with GIS and web mapping applications (e.g. ArcGIS PRO, QGIS, ArcGIS Online, Leaflet).
Qualifications
- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Be computer literate in standard software applications;
- Have good knowledge of the principles of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and geospatial data management, as well as statistical and analytical skills.
