Overview

This internship focuses on news writing and reporting within the UN newsroom, with a primary purpose of producing daily news, in-depth features, and multimedia products in Spanish.


Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting Spanish news articles by integrating and translating information from various sources.
  • Translating English video scripts, photo captions and other texts into Spanish.
  • Proofreading news articles before and after publication.
  • Assisting with fact-checking and background research.
  • Assisting in the production of graphic, visual and audio content.
  • Working on feature stories, conducting research and interviews, and drafting feature stories.
  • Reviewing the partnerships database and looking for new digital media and other partners.
  • Performing other duties as assigned, including outreach.
Required Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications
  • Enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • OR enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar.
Other Details
Languages Required
Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
