Overview
The Occupational Health and Safety Specialist will provide OHS expertise globally, focusing on implementing the corporate OSH Management System, assessing risk, reviewing premises-related OHS components, and ensuring alignment with UN system-wide OSH, wellbeing, and accessibility frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate the implementation of the UNDP corporate OHS Management system.
- Provide technical OHS support and recommend hazards control measures.
- Monitor, measure, and report on organizational OHS KPIs and risk indicators.
- Review and record OHS incidents and hazards.
- Conduct OHS related assessment and audits.
- Participate in OHS meetings and interagency platforms.
- Provide construction safety support and oversight for renovation works.
- Advise on OHS requirements, site risk assessments, and safe-work procedures.
- Act as the UNDIS Focal Point for OGO.
- Lead monitoring and reporting on UNDP’s accessibility and disability-inclusion obligations related to premises and facilities.
- Act as the Premises Accessibility Focal Point.
- Review premises business cases.
- Serve as a technical reviewer on premises submissions.
- Support the enhancement of the UNDP Premises Database.
- Deliver OHS briefings.
- Support organization of OHS and accessibility promotional events, campaigns, training programmes and webinars.
- Contribute to training materials and knowledge products on OHS, premises safety, accessibility and duty-of-care.
- Liaise with UNDP Security Office and UN DHMOSH.
- Perform other duties related to OHS, accessibility, premises review, duty-of-care, or operational support.
Required Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years (with master’s degree) or 7 years (with bachelor’s degree) of experience in Occupational Health/Safety Operations in international organizations is required.
- Demonstrated experience in applying OSHW concepts and methods them in the development of the OSHW strategies, policies, management systems and quality standards is required.
- Experience in risk assessment, compliance audits, and emergency response planning is required.
- Previous experience in organizing and delivering OHS briefings or training is an asset.
- Previous experience in managing OHS Incident and hazard reporting system is an asset.
- Experience in development and delivery of learning capacity building and transfer of knowledge strategies, plans and training programmes related to occupational health/safety is an asset.
- Experience in facilitating trainings and workshops is an asset.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, Safety Risk Management or related field is required.
- Or A first-level university degree (bachelor’s degree) in the areas stated above, in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Official certification or training in the specific field of Occupational Safety/Health or Safety Risk Management from an internationally recognized, training institute is required.
