Overview

Assists in the preparation of budget proposals, resource requirements, and budget performance reports. Supports treasury functions by reviewing payment instructions and preparing payments for disbursement. Records and reconciles accounting transactions and processes payments to governments, vendors, and staff members.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in the preparation of supporting documents for cost estimates and budget proposals.
  • Extracts information and generates expenditure reports from computerized databases.
  • Assists in the development of resource requirements for budget submissions.
  • Researches and compiles data for budget reviews.
  • Prepares pre-encumbrances and obligations in IMIS.
  • Assists in drafting financial aspects of reports to the Security Council.
  • Assists with data input in budget instructions for peacekeeping operations.
  • Assists in the financial backstopping of trust funds.
  • Assists in the issuance of allotments/appropriations.
  • Verifies accuracy of input data.
  • Reviews draft reports for accuracy and consistency.
  • Reviews incoming payment instructions.
  • Prepares payments for final disbursement.
  • Dispatches payment instructions and cheques to banks.
  • Creates receipts and deposits for all incoming funds.
  • Notifies payees of payment status.
  • Assists with queries on payment and deposit-related issues.
  • Identifies and annotates bank account movements.
  • Files and archives documentation.
  • Records and reconciles accounting transactions.
  • Examines and records financial transactions and prepares remittances.
  • Reconciles bank accounts.
  • Assists in processing payments to governments and vendors.
  • Assists in processing payments to staff members for their entitlements.
  • Drafts/prepares memoranda and/or faxes.
  • Responds to queries from staff members and third parties.
  • Keeps up-to-date on documents/reports/guidelines related to programme budgets.
  • Drafts routine correspondence related to financial and budget matters.
  • Maintains and keeps up-to-date files.
  • Provides administrative support as required.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Required Experience

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in finance, budget, accounting, administrative services or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three years for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience communicating with permanent missions, heads of entities or similar high-level officials regarding financial issues is desirable. Experience supporting the work of the Committee on Contributions or similar expert financial committee is desirable.
