Overview

The Social Affairs Officer will participate in the analysis of social development issues, conduct empirical research, and provide advice on social policy issues. The role involves supporting intergovernmental processes and technical cooperation programmes related to gender equality and women's autonomy.


Key Responsibilities
  • Participates in the analysis of social development issues at global, regional, and national levels.
  • Undertakes empirical research and analysis of trends and developments.
  • Recommends proposals for reports to intergovernmental bodies and member states.
  • Develops indicators and methodologies for review and evaluation.
  • Liaises with government officials and representatives of various organizations.
  • Provides advice on social policy issues.
  • Assists in planning, organizing, and servicing expert group meetings.
  • Drafts reports and prepares summaries of meetings.
  • Represents the work unit at international and other meetings.
  • Organizes and participates in working groups, meetings, and conferences.
  • Prepares written reports, documents, and communications.
  • Provides support to the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Contributes to gender equality and women’s autonomy issues in intergovernmental processes.
  • Prepares documentation for technical cooperation programmes and projects.
  • Monitors, backstops, and assesses the implementation of technical cooperation programmes and projects.
  • Participates in fact-finding and advisory missions.
  • Organizes trainings and seminars.
  • Provides guidance to and may supervise new/junior staff.
  • Performs other related duties and administrative tasks.
  • Undertakes on-the-job and other training activities.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in socio economic development, policy analysis, sociological research or related area is required.
  • Experience producing research papers and analytical reports on gender and development in Latin America and the Caribbean is required.
  • Experience in the implementation of technical cooperation projects is desirable.
  • Experience working in international organizations such as the United Nations or others is desirable.
  • Two years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualifications
  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in sociology, economics, gender and development studies, other social science or related field.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
