Overview
The Senior Programme Manager [Senior Advisor] supports the ASG and the Climate Action Team by leading strategic planning and coordination of transition activities related to UN leadership changes. The role provides strategic advice on political engagement, Member State relations, and institutional continuity.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise the ASG on transition priorities, sequencing, and political sensitivities.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive transition strategy to ensure continuity and effective handover.
- Lead multi-stakeholder consultations in support of the transition strategy.
- Serve as an interlocutor with transition teams on climate-related matters.
- Coordinate the Climate Action Team's engagements with the broader UN system.
- Identify opportunities to formally anchor the CAT's work and partnerships within UN system structures.
- Support and advise on ASG's political engagements with Member States required for the transition.
Required Experience
- Relevant professional experience in policy, climate, political affairs, human rights, and/or development.
- Experience providing strategic advice and direct support to a senior UN official in relation to climate, international peace and security, human rights, humanitarian and/or development.
- At least five years of experience working on climate, peace and security, political, human rights, and/or development issues in the UN system.
- Experience in the UNHQ departments, and EOSG is highly desirable.
- Experience working in institutional transitions or knowledge management processes is highly desirable.
- Experience in coordinating inter-agency processes is desirable.
Qualifications
- Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent), preferably in International Relations or Public Policy or other relevant fields with ten (10) years of relevant experience is required; OR
- First-level university (bachelor’s degree or equivalent) preferably in International Relations or Public Policy or other relevant fields with twelve (12) years of relevant experience is desired.
