Overview
The Head of Project Unit (HPU) is responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring, supervising, and closing all projects in a country to support substantive partners in delivering their mandate.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide input to programme and project design documents.
- Oversee project implementation, review progress, and assess constraints.
- Draft high quality reports including project reports, annual reports, and situation reports.
- Build and strengthen strategic partnerships.
- Plan, recruit, manage, and develop a Project Unit workforce.
- Uphold the highest standards of conduct and foster a safe and inclusive work environment.
- Oversee measures to maintain the safety and security of UNOPS personnel and assets.
- Support design, coordination, and dissemination of public information products.
- Support CMAP preparations for official meetings, events, briefings, and field visits.
- Act as CMAP OIC upon request.
- Support the CMAP in managing relationships with national authorities, UN missions, UN country teams, and donors.
- Participate in UN mission/country team meetings.
- Keep UN Mission leadership/Resident Coordinator informed of UNOPS activities.
- Manage relationships with the CMAP and other direct UNOPS stakeholders.
- Foster and strengthen strategic partnerships at all levels.
- Promote inclusive engagement with national authorities, communities, and stakeholders.
- Keep abreast of and incorporate best practices, approaches, and technology.
- Initiate and undertake lessons learned.
Required Experience
- 7 years of relevant experience with an Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent).
- 9 years of relevant experience with a First Level University Degree (Bachelors or equivalent).
- 13 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma.
- Relevant experience is defined as experience in project or programme management in military, humanitarian, conflict, post-conflict, or development contexts.
- Experience in writing and reviewing reports is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience, including supervising teams, and managing complex projects and budgets, is required.
Qualifications
- Advanced University Degree (Masters or equivalent).
- First Level University Degree (Bachelors or equivalent).
- High School Diploma.
