Overview
The Language Assistant (French) role involves proofreading and formatting documents to ensure accuracy and consistency in grammar, spelling, and terminology. The primary purpose is to make WHO health policy and technical information accessible in official languages.
Key Responsibilities
- Proofreads documents, reports, tables, graphics and other materials for consistency, grammar, spelling, house style, references, format, formatting and font.
- Checks proofs of publications after layout for page layout, font choice/size correctness.
- Contacts staff for clarification on issues and/or terminology.
- Processes and formats documents, reports, statistical tables, official letters using various programs.
- Imports and redesigns graphics for master files.
- Performs limited DTP tasks.
- Performs pre-processing of documents for computer-assisted translation (CAT).
- Stores final documents in the official repository for CAT and aligns bi-texts.
Required Experience
- At least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in WHO, or other UN system or international organization working with document production standards associated with official, governance, governing body and technical documents involving specialized formats and terminology.
- Previous experience in language services is desirable.
- Relevant experience in WHO or another UN agency is an asset.
- Experience in user management would be an asset.
Qualifications
- Essential: Completion of secondary school education or equivalent.
- Desirable: Completion of specialized courses in document production to prepare a variety of documents and correspondence and import documents from a variety of formats.
