Overview

The Education Specialist will support UNICEF's Global Education Practice Team in addressing challenges related to out-of-school children, promoting equity and inclusion in education, and advancing cross-sectoral work.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provision of technical support to Country Offices in addressing challenges related to out-of-school children and promoting equity and inclusion in education.
  • Effective functioning of the Equity, Disability, Gender, and Inclusion (EDGI) pillar, including research and webinar series on education equity and inclusion.
  • Advancing cross-sectoral work that integrates education with health, nutrition, WASH, child protection, social protection, climate change, and other relevant sectors.
  • Any other tasks that contribute to UNICEF's work on promoting equity and inclusion in education globally.
Required Experience
  • 3 years required experience.
  • 5 years relevant experience.
  • Proven experience in education for out-of-school or marginalized children, and cross-sectoral collaboration to promote access and equity, preferably in developing countries.
  • Ability to work in international teams and with country offices.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team within an international, multicultural, and interdisciplinary environment, establishing harmonious and effective working relationships both inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to manage political and cultural sensitivity when working in international and multicultural environments.
  • Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.
Qualifications

Master's degree in Education or related social science field.

Remuneration
A UN Volunteer receives a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) per month and is paid at the end of each month to cover housing, utilities, transportation, communications and other basic needs. Furthermore, UN Volunteers are provided a settling-in-grant (SIG) at the start of the assignment (if the volunteer did not reside in the duty station for at least 6 months prior to taking up the assignment) and in the event of a permanent reassignment to another duty station. UNV provides life, health, permanent disability insurances as well as assignment travel, annual leave, full integration in the UN security framework (including residential security reimbursements). UN Volunteers are paid Daily Subsistence Allowance at the UN rate for official travels, flight tickets for the final repatriation travel (if applicable). A resettlement allowance is paid for satisfactory service at the end of the assignment.
