Overview

Provides technical leadership, coordination, and managerial support within the Unit of AI and Frontier Technologies, ensuring efficient and effective activities. Develops and proposes technical health policies and strategies for implementation and provides advice for strengthening technical capacity.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provides technical leadership, coordination and managerial support within the Unit of AI and Frontier Technologies.
  • Develops and proposes technical health policies and strategies for implementation.
  • Oversees a unit of technical teams and facilitates team synergies.
  • Manages the programme area, including staff, financial resources, and work planning.
  • Leads and conducts research on best practices and disseminates information.
  • Manages monitoring and evaluation, and reporting of key performance indicators.
  • Serves as a technical reference among peers, UN Agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Liaises with and utilizes partnerships in other UN Agencies, Donors, or research institutions.
  • Represents the programme area at various meetings to advocate for AI and Frontier Technologies.
  • Supports technical departments in identifying, designing, and evaluating AI-enabled tools and models.
  • Advances the development and responsible use of citizen-facing digital technologies.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in Digital Health, Health Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Health Informatics, Computer Sciences, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), including experience in strategy, policy development, and implementation.
  • Demonstrated experience managing human and financial resources.
  • Demonstrated experience at the international level.
  • Experience supporting countries in integrating AI into national health strategies; contributing to global AI governance or normative initiatives; leading multi-partner projects or research on AI in health; and mobilizing resources for digital or AI-enabled health programs is desirable.
  • Experience working in LMIC contexts and engaging in high-level policy or technical dialogues is an asset.
Qualifications
  • An advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in Digital Health, Health Technologies, Artificial Intelligence, Health Informatics, Mathematics, Computer Sciences, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) or other fields related to the functions of the position (ICT) with focus on strategy, policy development and implementation.
  • A PhD in public health, global health, clinical medicine, or a related health discipline is desirable.
  • Formal grounding in epidemiology, health systems, or clinical practice that strengthens the application of AI to real-world health contexts is an asset.
  • Additional interdisciplinary training bridging health and digital/analytical domains would be advantageous.

Remuneration
• Annual base salary starting at USD 103,165 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable). • A variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 7686 per month for the duty station indicated above. • Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
