Overview

This internship focuses on Programme Management within the Finance area, supporting the Department of Peace Operations. The role involves assisting with financial administration and reporting for peace operations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations, meeting minutes, grant reports, etc.
  • Support organization of intergovernmental meetings, conferences, and side events, and provide substantive, logistical and administrative support during meetings and conferences in virtual and hybrid modalities.
  • Support the management of extrabudgetary funds and grants for the team.
  • Assist in collecting and systematizing information on military performance and military policy issues; and briefings based on data collection, research and analysis.
  • Support outreach and research and analysis on current issues related to military performance and military policy analysis relevant to the military component in the ground and the Headquarters.
  • Provide editorial support for military guidance documents, including proofreading, formatting, and ensuring consistency with UN style and terminology.
  • Provide support to the policy development, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends related to military affairs and performance management.
  • Assist in maintaining databases, websites and mailing lists.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Pursuing or pursued a degree in areas related to administration, finance, business or related fields.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications including MS Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Office (Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Teams, etc.)

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Remuneration
The internship is UNPAID and may be full-time (35 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week). Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
