Overview

Provide reasonable accommodation to UNDRR staff members with visual disabilities, assisting with programme-related activities and ensuring equal access to information and the work environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitate access to information systems and IT platforms not compatible with assistive technologies.
  • Convert visual and non-accessible materials into accessible formats.
  • Provide real-time verbal description of visual content during meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Support preparation and delivery of presentations.
  • Assist with structured note-taking and summarizing key discussion points.
  • Facilitate early access to agendas, documents, and meeting materials.
  • Provide escort and mobility support within the workplace and in unfamiliar environments.
  • Assist with mobility and orientation during domestic and international travel using sighted guide techniques.
  • Support organization of workshops, meetings, and events, including accessibility briefings for venues.
  • Conduct desk research and compile materials for reports, briefings, and meetings.
  • Proofread and format documents to ensure accuracy, consistency, and accessibility standards.
  • Support scheduling, calendar management, and travel arrangements.
  • Maintain files, databases, and information systems.
  • Provide administrative and office support related to the implementation of the work programme and associated activities.
Required Experience
  • A minimum of two years of experience in workplace assistance, accessibility support, administrative support, or a related field in a professional environment is required.
  • Experience in using Office 365 solution is desirable.
  • Experience in providing support to a person with a visual disability in a professional environment is desirable.
  • Experience in drafting and proofreading documentation in English is desirable.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Training or certification in support to people with visual disabilities and/or assistive technology is desirable.
