Overview

Develop and implement communication strategies and materials for the Office of the Victims’ Rights Advocate (OVRA) to enhance system-wide awareness and coherence of messaging on victims' rights.


Key Responsibilities
  • Development of a system-wide communication strategy for OVRA, including standardized messaging on victims’ rights, including for social media engagement.
  • Design a new and updated version of the OVRA website, and a comprehensive update of the VictimsRightsFirst webpage.
  • Implement strategy and design digital content for social media engagement, including on twitter, Instagram and other media
  • Design and produce communication materials on the mandate and work of OVRA
  • Design and produce a series of short podcast discussions on victims’ rights issues.
  • Develop internal and external communications strategies and consolidate the implementation of ongoing communication processes.
  • Coordinate the production of multimedia and digital content
  • Coordinate the update of the OVRA and VictimsRightsFirst websites
  • Coordinate the designing, drafting and updating of presentations and other communications materials.
  • Organize communication and public information activities and outreach, monitor and track social media engagement.
  • Develop and support system-wide and field-oriented communication and outreach approaches, ensuring alignment between headquarters, peacekeeping missions, humanitarian and development partners and United Nations Country Teams (UNCTs).
  • Develop and promote standardized messaging, including on role clarification related to victims’ rights, and ensure OVRA is systematically consulted in the development and dissemination of such messaging across relevant entities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience working in communications, public information, digital media, journalism, web design, data visualization, marketing and experience with graphic/web designs application or related field is required. Experience with the United Nations Common System or a comparable international organization, or similar multi-lateral or non-governmental organization is desirable. Direct experience working with human rights, in particular victims’ rights is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in communication, public relations, journalism, web design, data visualization, marketing and experience with graphic/web designs application or a related field is required. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
