Overview

The IPC Nurse will work to strengthen infection prevention and control (IPC) systems and practices in health facilities supported by the IRC. The role involves supporting IPC measure implementation, coaching health workers, and improving adherence to national IPC standards.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care in the isolation unit.
  • Ensure clinical management and IPC procedures are applied by staff.
  • Deliver IPC training to health facility staff and provide ongoing mentorship.
  • Conduct rounds in health facility services and departments to monitor IPC practices.
  • Develop and implement IPC improvement systems.
  • Establish an Ebola surveillance system in inpatient wards.
  • Maintain work schedules and patient documentation.
  • Develop a system for requesting and tracking IPC supplies.
  • Monitor and evaluate the safety of field teams.
Required Experience

At least 2 years of experience as a nurse, primarily in IPC implementation, isolation services, or emergency settings. Demonstrated experience in viral hemorrhagic fever isolation centers, field hospitals, or cholera treatment centers. Experience in implementing IPC practices and improving systems, ideally in a low-resource context. Experience supervising a team for strict adherence to infection control. Previous training or teaching experience.

Qualifications

Nurse or Nurse Practitioner with current registration with the recognized professional body of your country of residence.
