Overview

This internship focuses on research related to cyber and new technologies, specifically the malicious uses of emerging technologies like satellite-enabled technologies within digital critical infrastructure.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct desk research on the malicious use of emerging technologies by criminal and terrorist actors.
  • Conduct research on the criminal and terrorist misuse of satellite-enabled technologies.
  • Support analytical and policy-oriented research on the role of satellite-enabled technologies and other emerging technologies.
  • Assist in collecting, organizing and analysing open-source information, academic literature, technical reporting and policy materials.
  • Support the drafting of background papers, briefing notes, concept notes, presentations and analytical reports.
  • Provide research support to identify emerging trends, risks and future areas of interest.
  • Support communication and outreach activities related to research dissemination.
  • Assist with other research and programme support tasks, as required.
Required Experience

Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. A field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualifications

Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); OR be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
