Overview

The intern will contribute to the project “Strengthening ASEAN Capacity for Chemical, Biological, and Radiological Disinformation Detection and Response” by conducting research, monitoring, and supporting the drafting of reports and mission materials.


Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct desk research on CBR disinformation trends, narratives, and incidents in assigned ASEAN Member States.
  • Map existing national policies, strategies, and institutional frameworks related to CBR crisis communication in AMS.
  • Monitor and compile media and social media sources for emerging CBR disinformation narratives in the region.
  • Support the drafting and editing of national reports, the annual magazine, and progress narrative reports.
  • Support in the preparation of background documents, agendas, and briefing notes for virtual and in-country missions.
  • Support the coordination of in-country missions (travel logistics, liaison with local counterparts, preparation of mission materials).
  • Support the preparation of presentations, infographics, and visual materials for workshops and mission.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience

Previous working experience in such areas as law enforcement, criminal justice, and/or disinformation is desirable. Previous experience in the area CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear) risk mitigation is desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet at the time of the application one of the following requirements (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Preferable fields of study: law, political science, international relations, criminology, psychology, communication/external relations or other related fields. Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, especially Microsoft Office. Applicants must possess a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Fluency in spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia and/or Bahasa Melayu is desired. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Remuneration
The Internship is UNPAID. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
