Overview
The National Project Coordinator will provide strategic leadership and overall coordination for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and adaptive management of complex project activities, ensuring alignment with FAO priorities and national development priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and day-to-day management of the project.
- Lead the overall implementation of project activities, including preparation and monitoring of budgets.
- Establish, update, and monitor time-phased work plans.
- Oversee project personnel, consultants, service providers, and implementing partners.
- Lead project budget management and procurement oversight.
- Lead the application of agreed selection criteria for project sites, priority areas, and beneficiaries.
- Establish and maintain effective institutional partnerships and stakeholder relationships.
- Lead stakeholder consultations, technical discussions, and coordination mechanisms.
- Ensure the design, delivery, and quality assurance of capacity development interventions.
- Direct and oversee the organization and documentation of trainings, workshops, and other project events.
- Maintain and regularly update project monitoring, reporting, and results management systems.
- Identify, assess, and manage operational, fiduciary, financial, environmental, social, security, and implementation risks.
- Serve as focal point for project governance mechanisms.
- Prepare and submit high-quality progress reports, analytical updates, briefing materials, and management reports.
- Lead donor reporting, communication, visibility, and knowledge management activities.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with donors and development partners.
- Lead project development and resource mobilization efforts.
- Oversee recruitment and mobilization of project personnel and consultants.
- Represent FAO and the project in technical, sectoral, inter-agency, donor, and government coordination meetings.
- Foster a high-performing and collaborative project team environment.
- Lead project closure planning and implementation.
- Prepare and submit an end-of-assignment report.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.
Required Experience
At least 9 years of relevant, progressively responsible experience in managing and coordinating complex multi-stakeholder development project/s, including strategic planning and implementation in agriculture and rural development, and working with government counterparts and international development partners. Proven experience in peacebuilding and the application of conflict-sensitive approaches is an advantage for programmes operating in fragile or conflict-affected contexts.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Development Studies, Public Administration, Project Management, Economics, Rural Development, Social Sciences, International Development, Environmental or Climate Change Studies, or related disciplines.
