Overview

The Nurse Coordinator role is responsible for maintaining and strengthening the implementation of Mandatory Health Support Elements within the UN system in Venezuela, acting as a country-level focal point for medical evacuation management and coordinating health services for UN personnel.


Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and strengthen the implementation of Mandatory Health Support Elements (MHSE), including primary care, hospital care, mental health, Medical Clearance and Insurance Process (MCIP), emergency response, and access to pharmaceuticals.
  • Act as the country-level focal point for medical evacuation (medevac) management.
  • Maintain updated information on the country's health system, including medical capabilities, available services, and quality of care centers.
  • Coordinate and follow up on telemedicine mechanisms.
  • Supervise pharmaceutical agreements, monitor medication stock, and project needs.
  • Verify staff vaccination status, coordinate vaccine acquisition and availability, and support vaccination campaigns.
  • Organize and facilitate training on first aid, ergonomics, and other relevant health topics.
  • Maintain information exchange with UN system medical services.
  • Facilitate fitness-to-work evaluations.
  • Provide advice to staff on preventive health matters.
  • Consolidate and report statistics related to staff health.
  • Evaluate and facilitate staff access to national health services.
  • Monitor health risks, epidemiological outbreaks, and environmental threats.
Required Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in nursing, with at least three (3) years directly related to functions similar to the position. Previous experience in UN system contexts, international organizations, or equivalent environments is highly desirable. Experience in occupational medicine, traveler's health/tropical medicine, and emergency care. Experience in health promotion and preventive medicine.

Qualifications

University degree (bachelor's or equivalent) in Nursing, awarded by a recognized national or international institution, with a valid license to practice. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required. Additional training in public health, tropical or traveler's medicine, and emergency medicine will be valued. Specialized certifications such as Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) will be considered an advantage.
