Overview
The Safeguarding Coordinator will define and lead the implementation of a Safeguarding Strategy to strengthen detection, prevention, and reporting in a specific country context. This role involves mentoring field teams, coordinating work plans, and conducting risk assessments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct safeguarding risk assessments and discussions with stakeholders, including patients and the community.
- Develop a safeguarding action plan with indicators.
- Analyse historical data and interactions to identify trends and root causes of safeguarding issues.
- Engage with other MSF sections for harmonization of activities.
- Design and lead safeguarding risk assessments and translate findings into actionable prevention plans.
- Provide technical leadership and coaching to teams.
- Support departments in integrating safeguarding objectives into their strategic and operational design.
- Embed safeguarding risk assessments in new programming, proposals, and emergency responses.
- Lead discussions regarding transversal integration of Safeguarding across country operations.
- Drive the identification of knowledge gaps and contextualize safeguarding materials.
- Deliver high-quality training and build sustainable internal capacity.
- Ensure safeguarding is embedded in onboarding processes.
- Design and roll-out community-based awareness on rights and complaint mechanisms.
- Strengthen the capacity of teams to deliver safeguarding messages and clarify reporting.
- Lead the design, improvement, and oversight of complaint mechanisms.
- Strengthen team capacity in complaint handling, including survivor-centered approaches.
- Lead the collection, analysis, and interpretation of safeguarding data.
- Produce regular analytical reporting and support managers in planning activities.
- Coordinate, provide technical support, capacity building, and mentoring of safeguarding focal points, Behaviour Officers, and SG Supervisors.
- Plan and supervise associated HR processes for the team.
- Engage in inter-agency coordination forums.
- Coordinate amongst other MSF sections to promote alignment of strategies.
- Participate in recruitment of safeguarding staff.
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in safeguarding, protection or related areas with an NGO/INGO; or at least 5 years of MSF experience as Field Coordinator or Project Medical Referent. Experience in management, coordination and implementation of protection/safeguarding strategies. At least one assignment in an emergency context is required. Experience designing and delivering training and awareness-raising activities is highly valued.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in Law, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Humanitarian Affairs or a related field.
