Overview
The Chief of Service, Supply Chain Management, D1 is responsible for the overall management of supply chain activities, including planning, guidance, and coordination across various supply chain areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Participates in the planning process, focusing on supply chain areas and contributing to an integrated approach.
- Initiates the development and implementation of the supply chain work plan, including forecasts, priorities, and requirements.
- Ensures coordination and monitoring of overall strategies and programmes for supply chain activities.
- Develops and implements a service optimization programme for continuous improvement in supply chain activities.
- Ensures that all processes and systems are relevant and cost-effective.
- Establishes priorities and sets management performance goals for staff.
- Ensures good order and discipline of staff under supervision.
- Ensures that the supply chain budget, human resources, and assets are optimally budgeted and allocated.
- Establishes robust policies, procedures, practices, standards, and tools for supply chain management.
- Assumes responsibilities of a Certifying Officer for the mission supply chain budget.
- Provides strategic advice to the Director on necessary managerial, logistical, and administrative support.
- Maintains active communication with UN headquarters and global/regional service centers.
- Works collaboratively with other services to achieve shared objectives.
- Actively engages with civilian, police, and military components to ensure coordinated supply chain support.
- Liaises, negotiates, and coordinates with national authorities on supply chain matters.
- Carries out other duties as assigned and deputizes for the Director when called for.
Required Experience
A minimum of fifteen years of progressively responsible experience in at least three supply chain management functions: acquisition, procurement, supply chain planning, logistics, warehousing, asset and inventory management, passenger and cargo transportation, or contract management is required. At least five years of management experience in supply chain management, of which at least three years of managing supply chain operations in an international environment is required. Experience in planning, sustaining and managing complex supply chain management operations in a conflict or post-conflict environment with scarcity of resources is desirable. Experience in leading a change management initiative, programme or project in the area of supply chain is desirable. Experience in negotiation, communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders and clients is desirable.
Qualifications
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in supply chain management, business administration/management, or related field. A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
