Overview

The Logistics Officer will be responsible for preparing logistics and support plans, managing logistics support, and coordinating logistics activities for peacekeeping missions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares logistics and support plans with reference to the MOU, deployment timelines and budget requirements for planned or peacekeeping missions.
  • Develops logistical plans for existing missions.
  • Develops and implements methodologies and tools to enable effective execution of logistic plans.
  • Formulates mission specific Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Manages logistics support with reference to the MOU.
  • Coordinates timely, accountable and cost-effective delivery of peacekeeping cargoes and personnel.
  • Ensures that supervised staff are adequately trained, cross trained; identifies additional training needs to achieve high working standards.
  • Coordinates and provides logistics support to ongoing air, land, sea, or rail operations for the field mission, in relation to the MOU.
  • Ensures that logistics requirements take account of gender-specific needs.
  • Coordinates logistics activities with procurement, finance, human resources, policy and other substantive units.
  • Follows up on legal and financial aspects of the mission.
  • Prepares reports on personnel and materiel movements and other operational logistics issues, with relation to the MOU.
  • Participates in technical survey missions and verification missions to troop contributing countries.
  • Ensures that accurate and complete accounting, reporting and internal control systems are functioning and that all relevant records are maintained.
  • Prepares contingency plans and logistics preparedness reviews.
  • Coordinates logistics operations in relation to the MOU with other UN agencies, military and other organizations in the field.
  • Guides and supervises new/junior staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Required Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in land or air transport, logistics operations in military, commercial or international organizations, or related area is required. At least two (2) years of experience in conducting Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) negotiations with member states for deployments of military or police is required. Experience in implementing the Contingent Owned Equipment (COE) framework using the Uniformed Capabilities Management system is required. Experience in conducting briefings to member states on the COE Framework is desirable. Experience in the support of international military or United Nations' peacekeeping operations is desirable. Experience data analysis and developing metrics in logistics and/or supply chain management is desirable.

Qualifications

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in business administration, public administration, engineering, law or other relevant field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
