Overview

The Field Agent will support the implementation of the "Inclusive and Sustainable Rio" project by mobilizing and raising public awareness about urban and climate resilience towards non-structural actions to reduce disaster risks.


Key Responsibilities
  • Actively participate in field operations, performing specific roles in communications, reception, and geological risk monitoring.
  • Support organizing and safely guiding the community during emergency evacuations.
  • Provide basic first aid guidance and support quick and effective communication during emergencies.
  • Monitor warning signs and threats in risky areas, contributing to disaster prevention.
  • Support shelter operations at support points assisting in organizing, structuring, and addressing community needs.
  • Work closely with the Local Manager and other team members, efficiently completing assigned tasks.
  • Report difficulties and results to the Local Manager in charge.
  • Work directly with the local community, providing support and necessary information during field activities.
  • Promote awareness of existing risks and safe practices in emergency situations.
  • Assist in organizing materials, equipment, and resources needed for operations.
  • Ensure the preservation of equipment and compliance with operational protocols.
  • Strictly follow safety guidelines and standards established for field activities.
  • Identify risky situations during operations and take action to mitigate potential harm.
  • Contribute to the collection and recording of information in the field, helping in the preparation of reports on performed activities.
  • Share operational feedback and practical suggestions to improve day-to-day activities.
  • Contribute to evaluating field action execution, identifying improvement opportunities, and proposing adjustments.
  • Help identify and manage potential conflicts during field operations, seeking quick and effective solutions.
  • Adapt execution strategies according to territorial specifics or unforeseen circumstances.
  • Contribute to identify and report training needs/adjustments.
  • Support the training team in planning and delivery of community training activities.
  • Develop activities to strengthen community resilience and implement actions to mitigate environmental impacts and reduce disaster risks.
  • Act to expand educational actions to promote a culture of resilience.
  • Produce monthly reports on personal work activities.
  • Produce detailed weekly reports on field activities, including faced challenges.
  • Perform any other duties that may be requested by the supervisor.
  • Complete all courses and training activities indicated by the supervisor.
  • Complete the BSAFE security course from UNDSS during the first month of employment.
Required Experience
  • Experience in social mobilization activities.
  • Social work in slums and urban communities.
  • Community organization in emergency contexts, and/or disaster prevention is desirable.
  • Experience working in an inter-institutional environment, project management, monitoring-evaluation; approaches and strategies regarding good urban governance and local and regional development.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma is required, or additional two (2) years of relevant experience to the post, beyond the requirement.
  • Training courses in first aid or risk management are desirable.
