Overview

The role is responsible for promoting INTERPOL Firearms Programme Policing Capabilities, iARMS, IBIN, and IFRT, and providing investigative support to firearms-related crime investigations. The incumbent will also develop and deliver capacity building and training programs for SALW control in Member States.


Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a firearms and ballistic contact within Firearms Unit and projects.
  • Liaise with military and law enforcement personnel within Member States to identify entities responsible for the investigation of suspected firearms traffickers and assist law enforcement units with adherence to the INTERPOL Firearms Recovery Protocol or similar national protocols.
  • Promote Firearms Programme Policing Capabilities, iARMS, IBIN and IFRT to Member States and other stakeholders.
  • Perform iARMS queries (and traces when applicable) on all recovered firearms and work with national entities to populate the database with each country’s registry of lost, stolen and suspected trafficked firearms.
  • Enhance local capacity by providing train-the-trainer sessions on firearms for national firearms investigation units.
  • Organize the implementation of regional operations against firearms trafficking.
  • Perform all other duties required by the Coordinator Firearms.
Required Experience

At least 3 years of experience in firearms-related investigations or in the prevention of firearms trafficking. Ten years’ experience in the area is required if the post holder does not have the required level of education. Proven experience in a law enforcement agency or international organization or related forensic field. Experience in working in an international organization would be an asset.

Qualifications

A minimum of three-to-four years’ education at a University or other specialized higher education establishment.
