Overview

The National Border Governance Officer will support the coordination and monitoring of border governance programming and related migration management activities with national authorities and other stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities
  • Support the planning, coordination and monitoring of the IBG Programme portfolio.
  • Liaise with line ministries and national counterparts to support coordination and facilitate border governance activities.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to national IBG staff on assistance implementation and monitor activity delivery.
  • Conduct and report on field visits and provide recommendations.
  • Liaise with government officials to support collaboration and facilitate programme activities.
  • Support the implementation of IOM activities related to Migration Management, particularly government coordination.
  • Analyse and brief on government approaches, public perceptions, media and socio-political trends.
  • Identify risk factors and challenges and provide recommendations.
  • Contribute inputs and recommendations for programming development and synergies.
  • Identify areas for strengthened collaboration with UN agencies, civil society or other stakeholders.
  • Participate and report on relevant conferences, seminars, workshops, training sessions and meetings.
  • Prepare minutes of meetings and update progress on decisions.
  • Draft analytical reports and deliver presentations.
  • Provide informal translation when necessary.
  • Perform other such duties as may be assigned.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree with four years of relevant professional experience; or Master’s degree with two years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience supervising staff and coordinating programme activities.
  • Experience in programme implementation, coordination and monitoring, preferably in migration management, border governance, humanitarian or development programmes.
  • Experience working with government counterparts, development partners and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in an international, humanitarian/development organization an advantage.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Communications, International Relations, Political Science from an accredited academic institution.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, Communications, International Relations, Political Science from an accredited academic institution.

Languages Required
Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Languages Preferred
Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage.
Contract Duration
1 year with possibility of extension
