Overview

This internship focuses on news writing and reporting within the Chinese Unit, producing multimedia content for Chinese-speaking audiences. The role involves drafting articles, translating content, and assisting in multimedia production.


Key Responsibilities
  • Drafting Chinese news articles by integrating and translating information from reports, press releases, official statements, resolutions and other UN materials.
  • Translating English video scripts, captions and other editorial content into Chinese.
  • Proofreading and fact-checking Chinese-language content before publication.
  • Conducting background research and assisting with editorial planning.
  • Assisting in the production of videos, social media content and multimedia storytelling projects.
  • Conducting interviews and supporting field reporting assignments.
  • Filming and editing short-form videos for social media platforms.
  • Assisting with audience engagement and outreach activities.
  • Participating in editorial meetings and contributing story ideas.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1. Applicants must: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • 2. Be computer literate in standard word processing and spreadsheets software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel or similar; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Languages Required
fluency in both English and Chinese is required.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
Contract Duration
4 to 6 months duration
Work Modality
in person and full-time (35 hours per week), on the United Nations premises, with a working arrangement from (New York, USA). This internship is designed to be full-time and in-person but can be adjusted based on the needs of the successful candidate to part-time (20 hours per week) and/or remote.
Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
