Overview

The purpose of this role is to ensure the effective and timely implementation and coordination of an Education pilot project funded by Akelius Foundation and implemented by Plan International Nigeria in Kano State.


Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinates implementation of the project in accordance with approved workplans, budgets, donor agreements, and implementation timelines.
  • Develops and maintains detailed implementation plans, activity trackers, and milestone monitoring tools.
  • Monitors implementation progress and ensures timely delivery of project outputs and deliverables.
  • Coordinates project inception, review meetings, quarterly learning meetings, and project close-out activities.
  • Monitors monthly expenditure, Budget versus Actual (BvA) reports, and burn rates to ensure spending remains on track.
  • Coordinates monthly project review meetings and follows up on agreed action points.
  • Supports financial forecasting and budget revisions where necessary.
  • Coordinates deployment, utilization, and monitoring of Akelius devices and digital learning resources across participating learning centres.
  • Coordinates learner orientation, facilitator training, coaching, mentoring, and technical support activities.
  • Coordinates implementation of project monitoring, evaluation, research, and learning (MERL) activities, including baseline, periodic assessments, and endline.
  • Documents lessons learned, best practices, innovations, and success stories throughout project implementation.
  • Coordinates stakeholder engagement with Akelius Foundation, Plan International Sweden, FMoE, UBEC, NERDC, Kano State Ministry of Education, SAME, SANE, LGEAs, and community structures.
  • Ensures timely preparation and submission of quality monthly, quarterly, and donor reports.
  • Coordinates closely with Finance, Supply Chain, MERL, Safeguarding, Communications, and Programme Support teams to ensure effective project implementation.
  • Supports identification and management of implementation risks and ensures mitigation measures are implemented.
  • Ensures safeguarding, gender equality, disability inclusion, and accountability principles are integrated across all project activities.
  • Represents Plan International Nigeria at technical meetings, review sessions, and stakeholder engagements related to the project.
  • Performs any other project-related duties as assigned by the Supervisor
Required Experience
  • Strong knowledge and experience in project coordination and implementation of education programmes.
  • Proven planning, budgeting, implementation tracking, and project management skills.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience coordinating donor-funded education or development programmes.
  • Experience working within Nigeria's basic and non-formal education sector.
  • Experience working with government education stakeholders and community structures.
  • Strong knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, research, learning, and reporting processes.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding, gender equality, disability inclusion, and accountability principles.
  • Proven coordination, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and relationship management skills.
  • Ability to document lessons learned and use evidence to improve programme quality.
  • Strong report writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Experience implementing digital learning or education technology programmes.
  • Experience working with Accelerated Basic Education Programme (ABEP) or alternative education programmes.
  • Experience working with Akelius or similar digital learning platforms.
  • Experience working with Plan International or similar INGOs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, facilitation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of gender and inclusion issues within the Nigerian education sector.
  • Understanding of gender issues in Nigeria, especially pertaining to the education sector
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Project Management, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or related field. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
  • Completion of NYSC is compulsory.
