Overview
The Biodiversity and NRM Portfolio Manager will coordinate the biodiversity, natural resource management, and nature-based solutions portfolio within the Climate, Environment, and Energy Cluster. The role provides strategic advice, facilitates policy dialogue, and coordinates the implementation of related interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic advice on the identification and formulation of biodiversity, NRM, and nature-based solutions interventions.
- Facilitate policy dialogue, technical advice, and needs assessment to national stakeholders.
- Support liaison with other UNDP country offices, regional hub, global teams, UN agencies, and development partners.
- Ensure strategic alignment of interventions with UNDP Country Programme Document, UNSDCF, and other strategic documents.
- Coordinate the operationalization and implementation of biodiversity and NRM-related interventions.
- Lead conceptualization and instrumentalization of interventions by providing senior-level expertise and technical assistance.
- Provide inputs in designing biodiversity and NRM-related projects.
- Consult on the development of working/action plans and monitor implementation.
- Substantially contribute to preparation of programme progress reports.
- Control timely preparation and compilation of Programme/Projects’ Annual/Quarterly Work Plans and Progress/Final reports.
- Provide regular input to the UNDP corporate system Quantum.
- Oversee the management of GEF-funded projects.
- Provide strategic advice for biodiversity, NRM and nature-based solutions related resource mobilization.
- Facilitate the development of concept notes and project proposals.
- Promote partnership, cooperation and coordination for common development action.
- Contribute to the development of a gender mainstreaming strategy and ensure mainstreaming of gender.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Support capacity and knowledge-building initiatives of national counterparts.
- Contribute to harnessing effective partnerships and competitive selection of partners.
- Promote joint programming and collaborate effectively in UN and other international coordination frameworks.
- Ensure proper coordination and information sharing with all international and national partners.
- Identification and synthesis of best practices and lessons learned.
Required Experience
Minimum 5 years (with Master’s degree) or 7 years (With Bachelor’s degree) of progressively responsible experience in the design, management/implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development projects in environment and/or projects in the field of Biodiversity, Natural Resources Management and/or working in a relevant position to this post. At least 2 years of experience in managing teams. Proven experience in working with Government institutions and/or CSOs. Proven ability to draft, edit and produce written proposals and results-focused reports. Experience of work with the international organizations, high-level government officials representing central governmental bodies and/or local administrations. Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
Qualifications
Advanced University Degree (Master’s Degree or equivalent) in Environmental Studies/ Science/ Economics / Social Sciences / International Relations / Development Studies or related field. OR First level University degree (Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent) in the above fields with an additional 2 years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
