Overview
The Protection Assistant implements protection interventions, including community engagement, protection desks, and protection monitoring, to ensure the appropriate delivery of services to affected communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct age-, gender-, and diversity-appropriate focus group discussions (FGDs) and key informant interviews (KIIs) to identify protection concerns.
- Stay abreast of the social, cultural, and community context and support data collection and analysis.
- Mobilize communities and facilitate awareness-raising activities on human rights, protection principles, and available services.
- Engage with affected communities to strengthen their capacity to identify protection risks and support community-led solutions.
- Deliver the Engaging Men as Allies (EMAA) curriculum and other behaviour change programming.
- Support the identification of safe and accessible community spaces for protection interventions.
- Support the identification and referral of protection cases and vulnerable individuals.
- Support the mapping and establishment of referral pathways and service coordination mechanisms.
- Oversee the delivery of protection interventions by community volunteers or partner staff.
- Liaise and build partnerships with community leaders and relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure timely and accurate documentation, reporting, and maintenance of means of verification.
- Participate in planning and debriefing sessions, contribute to report writing, and attend coordination meetings.
Required Experience
- 1- 2 years’ community-based experience involving human rights and multi-sector protection experience.
- Demonstrates knowledge of protection minimum standards, protection in emergencies principles, and human rights principles.
- Understanding of protection issues and responses, such as working with PSNs, Women and Children, and the best interest of the human rights principles.
- Knowledge of the humanitarian context in Sudan and of the issues related to conflict and displacement.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook application software.
- Commitment to human rights, women rights and child protection principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and works well with people of different cultures, gender and, backgrounds.
- Works collaboratively with team members to achieve results.
- Remains productive when under pressure with the ability to prioritize effectively, and respects and adheres to deadlines.
- Able to work in a variety of environments and is prepared to conduct field missions for several weeks at a time, to remote locations with few amenities.

Qualifications
Higher Diploma or Degree in Social Sciences, Law or related field.
