Development Finance, Data Management and Economics Analysis Intern (Home-based)

Overview

Internship supporting the IDSF Secretariat with a focus on development finance, quantitative analysis, data management, and economic research.

Key Responsibilities

• Support analysis of financing opportunities relevant to durable solutions.
• Conduct desk research on development finance trends, fiscal space, public investment, economic inclusion and financing models.
• Help maintain trackers on donor engagement, financing instruments, country pipelines, budget allocations, downstream financing and catalytic results.
• Support the preparation of briefing notes, donor materials, slide decks and analytical inputs.
• Collect, clean and organize quantitative and qualitative data related to the IDSF portfolio, country contexts, displacement trends, financing flows and programme indicators.
• Support the development and quality assurance of Excel trackers, dashboards, data tables and visualizations.
• Assist with analysis of country-level displacement, macroeconomic and development data.
• Support efforts to assess and communicate the potential economic and social returns of investments in durable solutions.
• Support consistency and quality control across country updates, annual reporting, results frameworks and donor-facing materials.
• Prepare background research on priority countries.
• Assist with requests from Resident Coordinator Offices and UN Country Teams.
• Support meeting preparation, note-taking and action tracking for financing-related consultations, donor discussions and coordination meetings.
• Provide ad hoc analytical and administrative support to the IDSF Secretariat as needed.

Required Experience

Academic background or demonstrated interest in economics, finance, development finance, public policy, statistics, data analytics or a related field. Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with demonstrated ability to work with Excel and structured datasets. Experience conducting desk research, literature reviews, financial or economic analysis, data cleaning or data visualization is desirable. Familiarity with public finance, multilateral development banks, development finance institutions, donor financing, results frameworks or investment-case development is an asset. Experience with Power BI, Tableau, Stata, R, Python, GIS, advanced Excel or other analytical tools would be an advantage. Knowledge of internal displacement, durable solutions, fragile contexts or humanitarian-development collaboration would be helpful.

Qualifications

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme or higher); Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as a bachelor’s degree or equivalent); Have recently graduated with a university degree, as defined above, and, if selected, start the internship within one year of graduation; or Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme
