Overview

This internship is located in the Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The intern will assist with internal and external communications and outreach efforts, with emphasis on preparations for major intergovernmental processes and events.


Key Responsibilities
  • Research and monitor United Nations developments and news sources related to inclusive social development issues;
  • Produce and update news and digital content for DISD websites and social media platforms;
  • Support preparations and communications for CSocD65, COSP20, and UNPFII;
  • Attend events, meetings and seminars and provide communications support;
  • Assist in preparing public information materials;
  • Support communications and outreach related to follow-up to the Second World Summit for Social Development and implementation and promotion of the Doha Political Declaration;
  • Support communications campaigns for relevant United Nations international days and observances;
  • Monitor social media activities and audience engagement;
  • Evaluate the results and impact of communications activities and provide recommendations;
  • Update and enhance website content related to inclusive social development;
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Required Experience

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.

Languages Required
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
Languages Preferred
Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Contract Duration
2-6 months
Work Modality
Hybrid, unless circumstances of the selected intern necessitate a fully remote arrangement.
Remuneration
Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
