Overview
The Finance Assistant performs financial and budgetary duties under the supervision of the Chief Finance Officer.
Tasks Summary
- Ensure year-end adjustments and bank reconciliations are completed.
- Process financial transactions in ERP systems.
- Review and verify financial data.
- Maintain financial records and reconcile accounts.
- Handle receipt and disbursement of cash.
- Verify supporting documents and prepare cash reports.
- Deposit collections and safeguard cash.
- Assist in maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Prepare payments to staff and vendors.
- Review computation of staff entitlements and prepare vouchers.
- Assist in budget proposal and cost plan preparation.
- Consolidate data for budget submissions.
- Prepare periodic financial reports.
- Analyze budget variances.
- Process fund redeployment requests.
- Monitor budget implementation and expenditures.
- Advise on budget commitments.
- Provide data and analysis for audits.
- Ensure adherence to UN Financial Regulations and Rules.
- Respond to financial and budgetary queries.
- Support capacity-building initiatives.
- Maintain files and documentation.
- Draft correspondence on financial matters.
- Assist with data collection, analysis, and presentations.
Experience Requirements
A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience within the United Nations system or in the private sector at the national or international level in accounting, finance, or budgeting is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to 8 years for candidates who possess a First-level university degree or higher.
Qualification Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent is required. A technical or vocational certificate in accounting, finance, budget or related field is required. Experience in the use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, such as Umoja/SAP is required.
