Medicos del Mundo MdM-E Volunteer opportunity: Gender and sexual diversity volunteer with Médicos del Mundo in Senegal
Since 2003, MdM has focused on the accessibility and quality of the healthcare system, the fight against gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive health, with an approach based on human rights, particularly with regard to women and vulnerable populations. The volunteer will support in promoting the effective and efficient integration of a gender and sexual diversity perspective into MdM's work in the Dakar region. To achieve this, the volunteer's work will have two objectives: - Support strengthen the capacity of the team in the field in terms of the gender perspective: Diagnosis of the knowledge and capabilities of the MdM Senegal team, Group training plan (half-day workshops) and individual training (formative supervision, work sessions), Draw up a simple manual, specific to the context and areas of intervention of MdM in Senegal and intended for national staff. - Ensure that the gender perspective is integrated into current projects and those currently being identified. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements The work will take place at the MdM Dakar office, with some travel to Kedougou. The volunteer will be accommodated in the organisation's guest house. A driver will be available at all times for emergencies and any necessary movements to ensure the volunteer's well-being. The volunteer will receive a monthly per diem of 568€ to cover their food and other expenses. MdM will pay for the return plane ticket from the country of origin to the place of work, vaccinations, visas, etc. required before departure, travel insurance and expenses during the training in Madrid before deployment in the field. Training during the activity - Acquire know-how and interpersonal skills in a different cultural context and with different communities. - Improve volunteers' knowledge of health problems in vulnerable contexts and intervention strategies. - Understand the importance of community intervention in public health projects. - Enrich themselves both professionally and personally through exchanges with the local MDM team. - Exercise responsibilities, evaluating and asserting your skills. Volunteers will improve their knowledge through trainings in humanitarian action, and specific issues on security, gender, human rights. Participant profile 1. Professional profile - Professional(s) in the social sciences and/or health. - In-depth knowledge of gender and sexual diversity. - Knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and rights. - Knowledge of the right to health with a gender approach would be highly appreciated. - Experience in international cooperation projects. - Experience in developing participatory tools and techniques. - Commitment to Médicos del Mundo's work, values and mission. - Contextual knowledge (Senegal, Sahel) is an asset. 2. Skills profile : - Teaching and communication skills. - Analytical and writing skills. - Organisational, adaptability and teamwork skills. - Dynamic, proactive and flexible. - Rigour and autonomy in work. - Excellent command of spoken and written French (C1 minimum, C2 greatly appreciated). - A good level of Spanish is an asset. - Office package (Word, Excel and Internet). Eligibility : Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
