Overview

CRISTEEL Villers-lès-Nancy, France Volunteer opportunity: Educational support in kindergarten and after-school programs (ages 3–11)

Tasks Summary
  • Espace Montessori Nancy is an educational association located near Nancy (East of France, 1h30 from Paris in train). It includes a micro-daycare center, a Montessori school (kindergarten and elementary), an alternative middle school, and a recreation center open on Wednesdays and during school vacations. Around 90 children aged 0 to 15 attend the center, supported by a team of 18 staff members and many parent volunteers. The European volunteer will primarily support preschool children (ages 3–6) and assist in extracurricular activities for children up to 11. Tasks include helping during Montessori-based classes, organizing and leading creative, cultural, linguistic, or sports workshops, assisting with daily routines (meals, naps, transitions, tidying), supervising school trips and outdoor activities, and participating in holiday programs. The role takes place in a multicultural, dynamic environment, encouraging sharing of culture, language, and talents. Fluency in Spanish is preferred. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements Espace Montessori Nancy is located in a quiet, green neighborhood, close to the city of Nancy and easily accessible by public transportation. The volunteer's accommodation will be located near downtown Nancy, allowing them to enjoy cultural and social activities while remaining close to a direct bus line to the school. Volunteers will have a single room in shared accommodation with other young people. Food and local transport costs will be covered in accordance with European Solidarity Corps rules. Training during the activity Volunteers receive progressive and personalized training: introduction to the educational project and Montessori method, classroom observation, mentoring support, learning caring and non-violent communication, participation in team meetings, and regular follow-ups to review projects and address any challenges. Moreover, the volunteeer will attend two Seminars organized by the French Agency : the first one is an on-arrival seminar and the mid-term one. This is a special opportunity to meet all European volunteers in France. Participant profile We are looking for a young person:
  • aged 18 to 30, motivated by working with young children (3–6 years old), education, and alternative teaching methods;
  • curious, patient, attentive, able to interact gently and respectfully, and eager to discover the Montessori method;
  • eager to offer personal workshops to share their passions (art, sports, nature, etc.);
  • ready to get involved in a multilingual and multicultural environment and to share heir culture with the children and the team. No prior training is required: motivation, open-mindedness, and a desire to learn are essential. This assignment is particularly suitable for young people who want to discover the field of education or refine a career plan in teaching or youth work.
