VIRTAIN KAUPUNKI KANGASALA, Finland Volunteer opportunity: Take your chance!
Welcome to Kangasala, a vivid city in Pirkanmaa region, nearby Tampere! The youth work of the youth services of the city of Kangasala is carried out in a diverse manner. Forms of youth work in Kangasala include: Youth center activities at 4 youth centers, mobile youth work with a campervan decorated as youth center, outreach youth work, Youth council, Youth work at schools; youth counselors presence at schools as a trustworthy adult, student welfare groups directed by youth counselors, Various camps and events around the year, Financial assistance for youth organizations. The main target group is 13-17 year olds, but activities are also organized for primary school children and adults. Youth work services are intended for all young people under the age of 29. We work with groups and individuals, face-to-face and through digital environments. Our work is youth-oriented and preventive, our goal is to educate well-being active citizens. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements The volunteers are accommodated in Lepokoti, that has been a boarding house for Finnish artists until -86. There are 30 rooms in the house, and volunteers will have their own rooms for the whole period. Kitchen, laundry room and living room are shared. Cooking mainly takes place at the accommodation, which has a well-equipped kitchen. In addition, volunteers have the opportunity to have lunch at the nearest school on workdays. Volunteers receive a monthly food allowance and pocket money according to the rules of the ESC program. Training during the activity At work, volunteers are supported by the supervisor that makes sure that the volunteers are included in the working environment and youth work teams. Among that, the volunteers are supported by a mentor (the youthworker from Orivesi) who helps them in the learning process and settling in. Volunteers will be attending the On arrival training, provided by the Finnish National Agency, in Youth Centre Villa Elba, Kokkola. Participant profile We are looking for 2 (two) flexible young people who can adapt to different environments. Volunteers will have the opportunity to get acquainted with various aspects of Finnish youth work and the education system, as well as gain experience working with children and young people of different ages. Work environments range from youth centers to schools and events, providing a broad view of Finnish society. The most important factors in selecting volunteers are a person's suitability for diverse tasks and their motivation to work with children and young people. We are open to different personalities, backgrounds, and experiences. We do not impose educational or social restrictions, but focus on whether the applicant has the desire to boldly learn and grow as part of our community. In the selection process, we emphasize fairness and transparency. Every applicant has the opportunity to highlight their strengths and areas of interest during the interview, and the selection is made based on an overall assessment. Communication and guidance are kept clear so that all applicants have equal opportunities to understand what volunteering in Kangasala involves in practice. If necessary, we can adapt the interview or selection process to the applicant's needs, for example by providing extra time or a separate discussion opportunity.
