Overview

The Protection Associate provides functional protection support to information management and programme staff. The incumbent monitors protection standards and operational procedures in protection delivery.


Tasks Summary
  • Stay abreast of political, social, economic and cultural developments affecting the protection environment
  • Consistently apply International and National Law and applicable UN/UNHCR and IASC policy, standards and codes of conduct
  • Assist in providing comments on existing and draft legislation related to PoC
  • Provide advice on protection issues to PoC and liaise with competent authorities to ensure the issuance of personal and other relevant documentation
  • Assist in conducting eligibility and status determination for PoC
  • Contribute to measures to identify, prevent and reduce statelessness
  • Contribute to country-level child protection and education plans
  • Monitor Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all protection/solutions activities
  • Manage individual protection cases including GBV and child protection
  • Monitor and intervene in cases of refoulement, expulsion and other protection incidents
  • Assist in identifying durable solutions for PoC
  • Contribute to the design, implementation and evaluation of protection related AGD based programming
  • Facilitate effective information management through disaggregated data on PoC
  • Participate in initiatives to capacitate authorities, institutions and NGOs
  • Assist supervisor in prioritizing PoC for interview, counselling and proposing protection support
  • Assist supervisor with enforcing compliance of local implementing partners with global protection policies and standards

Experience Requirements
  • Relevant UN experience in Protection, VolRep, Solutions and Field operations
  • Relevant experience working with IDPs, Refugees, refugee returnees and IDP returnees and other forcibly displaced persons
  • Relevant work experience in Northeast Nigeria is desirable
  • Relevant experience in Multistakeholder collaboration and coordination

Qualification Requirements

• A university degree in law, social or political science, development or international relations or sciences is desirable

Other Details

Languages Preferred: • Knowledge of Hausa, Kanuri and other local languages in the Northeast is desirable
