Overview
The Information Systems Officer will plan and direct major information systems projects, manage the unit's budget, and develop technical specifications for procurement. The role involves providing specialized advice to users, maintaining and upgrading existing systems, and developing training materials.
Tasks Summary
- Plans and directs major information systems projects
- Manages the budget of the Information Systems unit
- Develops technical specifications for procurement
- Develops and recommends strategies for global information systems projects
- Develops, implements and monitors information systems standards, guidelines and procedures
- Develops detailed systems and other functional specifications and user documentation
- Provides specialized advice to users and analyses users’ requirements
- Maintains, upgrades or enhances existing user systems and provides continuing support
- Develops training materials, operating and user manuals and trains staff
- Develops disaster recovery plans relating to information systems
- Researches, analyses and evaluates new technologies
- Participates in writing reports and papers on systems-related topics
- Provides professional leadership and work direction for the Unit
- Handles all aspects of contract administration
- Provides guidance to, and may supervise, new/junior staff, consultants, etc.
- Develops plans for major IT systems projects within the mission
- Leads the team in the operation and maintenance of internetworking systems
- Devises and administers disaster recovery plans
- Responsible for the proper implementation of backup and recovery procedures
- Maintains a regular review of network resources access control, data security, and server and data stores security systems
- Ensures all information security systems are properly configured and maintained
- Oversees the user access control for network resources and overall network security
- Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights
- Ensures that requirements and background information used for data analysis are documented
Experience Requirements
- Experience in planning and directing major information systems projects
- Experience in managing budgets, formulating and monitoring budget allocations and expenditures
- Experience in developing technical specifications for procurement of equipment and contractual services
- Experience in developing and recommending strategies to implement global information systems projects
- Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring information systems standards, guidelines and procedures
- Experience in developing detailed systems and other functional specifications and user documentation
- Experience in providing specialized advice to users, analysing users’ requirements and translating these into new applications
- Experience in determining application systems integration and linkage issues

Qualification Requirements
- Secondary school, technical school, university and other courses and training programmes relating to the work
- High school diploma or equivalent and certification/diploma in other supplemental academic qualifications, training in Information Systems is required
- Information System Security Professional certification is required (CISSP)
- Cisco Certified Networking Professional certification is required
