Overview

Assists the Senior Political Affairs Officer in liaising with host country stakeholders and other multilateral organizations on conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding matters, specifically concerning access to land for rural reform beneficiaries.


Tasks Summary
  • Gathers, selects, and analyses information on topics of interest, including press communications.
  • Maintains knowledge of political events affecting rural reform and reintegration, ensuring a gender focus.
  • Provides inputs on land access, rural reform, and reintegration issues to senior officials.
  • Monitors national and regional political developments and advises UNVMC components and UN agencies.
  • Promotes strategic partnerships and maintains contacts with UN entities, international organizations, and governments.
  • Monitors actions taken by intergovernmental groups, UN organizations, and NGOs.
  • Participates in fact-finding missions.
  • Prepares meetings between the Head of Office/Senior Management and host country officials.
  • Ensures adherence to UNVMC policies, code of conduct, and ethics, integrating a gender-sensitive approach.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution or related area is required.
  • Experience in monitoring rural reform in a complex field location is desirable.
  • Experience working in support of the Colombia peace agreement is desirable.
  • Experience working on the reintegration process of former combatants is desirable.
  • Experience in data collection and analysis is desirable.

Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, Management or Rural Development, or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree with a combination of two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
  • Professional training in the areas of land issues, rural development, and conflict prevention is desirable.
