Overview

Internship opportunity within the Global Policy, Advocacy and Regional Cooperation (GPARC) Unit of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) secretariat in Bonn, Germany. The role provides support on issues related to desertification, land degradation, and drought.

Tasks Summary

• Support the preparation of background and option papers
• Track and analyse decisions and their implementation
• Assist in the preparation of speeches and talking points
• Monitor, identify and analyse global trends related to drought and water scarcity
• Support the preparation of analytical reports, papers, and correspondence
• Draft minutes of meetings and ensure timely follow-up
• Help prepare presentations and other communication material
• Support ad-hoc activities related to the Unit’s workplan

Experience Requirements

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience. A field of study closely related to the internship is required.

Qualification Requirements

• Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
• Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
• Enrolled in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme
• Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams
• Ability to draft presentations and other communication materials such as news articles and/or social media posts or blogs

Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in spoken and written English

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of an additional official UN language

Contract Duration: 6 months

Remuneration: The internship is UNPAID. Interns are not financially remunerated. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
