Overview

This role focuses on implementing the rights of older persons within the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. The position is located in Geneva.


Tasks Summary
  • Assists in developing and implementing advocacy campaigns through multimedia products
  • Researches and collects information on human rights matters, specifically related to the rights of older persons
  • Carries out basic research on rights of older persons, including collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data
  • Assists in performing consulting assignments by developing training packages and facilitating workshops
  • Drafts reports and correspondence, and contributes to written outputs like background papers and studies
  • Participates in the IGWG and assists in preparing summaries of results
  • Maintains awareness of current human rights issues and developments
  • Participates in human rights training programmes for national law enforcement officials, civil society representatives and NGOs
  • Reviews human rights issues, including gender dimensions, and participates in discussions on their integration into efforts and programmes
  • Assists in promoting community mobilisation and efforts focused on the exercise of rights of older persons
  • Participates in discussions with authorities and influential actors to prevent human rights violations
  • Liaises with government, NGOs, UN agencies and other partners to create baseline data
  • Designs and maintains a database to track project progress
  • Performs other related duties as required

Experience Requirements

A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. A first-level university degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have completed a qualifying programme.


Qualification Requirements

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in law, political science, international relations, social sciences or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
