Senior Waste Management Expert

Overview

Provide technical leadership and quality assurance for waste management projects at regional and country levels in Africa. Ensure feasibility studies, capacity building, and project proposals meet high technical standards and align with policies.


Tasks Summary
  • Provide technical oversight and guidance.
  • Assist in leading project implementation steps, including procurement and supervision of consultancy firms.
  • Assist in coordination of project implementation at the regional level.
  • Technically supervise project personnel in country project offices.
  • Oversee procurement, budget, and financial management.
  • Coordinate project monitoring and reporting.
  • Establish country-level government coordination mechanisms.
  • Assist in partnership building and liaison with development partners.
  • Assist in the participation of UN-Habitat in conferences, workshops and meetings.
  • Coordinate with UN-Habitat HQ branches and other regional offices.
  • Coordinate compilation of lessons learned.
  • Assist in the organization of knowledge sharing workshops and events.
  • Assist in the development of visibility and communication materials.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in waste management and related areas is required.
  • Experience in implementing development programmes/projects, particularly in Africa, is desirable.
  • Experience working with the United Nations system or an international organization is desirable.

Qualification Requirements
  • Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Environmental/Civil Engineering/Waste Management, Environmental Sciences or related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Other Details

Languages Required: • Fluency in oral and written English is required.

Languages Preferred: • Fluency in French is an asset.

Contract Duration: 12 months
