Overview

KAPNIKOS STATHMOS KATERINIS Katerini, Greece Volunteer opportunity: Civic Ecology Garden II

Tasks Summary

The Civic Ecology Garden functions as both a productive garden and an open community space, promoting sustainability, reuse, and responsible food production. Volunteers engage in hands-on activities such as planting, composting, soil care, water-saving practices, and seasonal maintenance. Part of the output directly supports the organization’s solidarity actions, linking ecological work with social support. At the same time, volunteers’ tasks are cross-project and interconnected, combining garden activities with involvement in other social initiatives of the organization. This allows volunteers to experience how ecological, social, and solidarity-based actions reinforce one another in practice. Through daily cooperation and practical work, volunteers gain insight into the social and environmental impact of small-scale initiatives, while contributing to the successful reclamation and adaptive reuse of an abandoned public space for community benefit. Funded by the SNJ Luxembourg. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements For the duration of their visit, volunteers' accommodation, food and transport will be fully taken care of by the organization. Additionally, every volunteer receives a fixed amount of pocket-money. Participants will be accommodated in one of the organization´s own fully-equipped appartements located directly inside our premises. Food will be provided by Kapnikos Stathmos in form of cooked meals from Monday through Sunday, prepared on-site following our meal plan. Training during the activity Task-related training, weekly real-life Greek lessons and various workshops Participant profile We are looking for volunteers interested in multicultural exchange and openess to meet, interact and cooperate with a wide variety of people inside a living community. Volunteers need to be adaptable to a wide range of tasks and not afraid of getting dirty or phyically tired. No special competence is required, yet every unique skill is appreciated. Experience in garden work is a helpful plus, but no requirement.
