Fundació Sant Tomàs Vic, Spain Volunteer opportunity: To the inclusion
Join our team of 8 volunteers. Fundacio Sant Tomas is a non-for-profit organization with more than 50 years of experience, our mission is to improve the well-being of people with ID (Intellectual Disabilities), promoting their inclusion in the community throughout our different services: special education school, occupational workshop centers, residency, sports and leisure club… In our centers we promote the opportunity to learn and practice professional skills (crafts, sewing, chocolate workshop, production…) as well as life skills. Sant Tomàs provides an enabling environment to develop each one’s strengths and interests. We look for motivated, flexible and proactive volunteers with a focus and sensitivity on social issues to learn form and work alongside our team of professionals. Motivation letters and CV sent to 2theinclusion@santtomas.cat for valid application! Accommodation, food and transport arrangements Our volunteers stay from mid September to August in a fully equipped flat in the city center, facilitating their social life in Vic. We have past volunteers who stayed working with us who know all the tips and tricks and will provide mentorship in social life and places of interest. Round trip will be covered according to the ESC grant, as well as a public transport pass, pocket money and food money which will be monthly submitted to a personal wallet card. This will be our 11th consecutive project!! Training during the activity Our volunteers will participate in both trainings organized by the National Agency of Spain INJUVE. Informal training on Intellectual Disabilities through our professionals and an on arrival theorical training in our central offices. The possibility to participate, for a very reduced cost, in the Spanish courses provided by the University de Vic UCC for international students. Besides the access to EU Academy platform provided by ESC. Volunteers have to also be open to interact with Catalan, similar to Spanish, spoken in the area which is vastly used by people in the centers. Participant profile We are looking for open-minded, adaptable, and social young people who enjoy being active, are not afraid to make new relationships, have a positive and willing attitude to learn and explore new things. Initiative and ideas to contribute in our centers are highly valued but you don't need to be widely experienced or hold related degree, although it is always appreciated. The most important qualities are good disposition and motivation to learn and explore our work and our community. Volunteers are an active part of the team and will work in our Sports and Leisure center as well as our daily centers around 30h per week. In terms of language, some Spanish knowledge is preferred as Catalan is widely spoken in the area so Spanish learning can be more challenging.
