Overview
The Senior Driver Protocol provides safe, reliable, and timely transportation services and supports protocol and administrative functions, including document delivery and airport protocol services.
Tasks Summary
- Provide safe and timely transportation for staff and visitors.
- Assist with airport protocol duties, including meeting/greeting and facilitating customs/immigration.
- Ensure vehicle maintenance and report required repairs.
- Support timely delivery and pickup of official documents.
- Troubleshoot minor protocol-related issues.
- Coordinate with various units and external entities.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive conversations.
- Assist with document preparation and submission to authorities.
- Follow up on customs clearance and logistics for shipments.
- Help facilitate vehicle registration processes.
- Maintain good relationships with government counterparts.
- Assist in collecting and organizing protocol documents for filing.
- Update protocol database or tracking sheets.
- Represent the Protocol Section in logistical roles at external events.
- Provide general support to the Protocol Team.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks and ensure readiness.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and professional appearance.
- Ensure presence and functionality of safety equipment.
- Record trips in log books and report mechanical issues or accidents.
- Operate Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS) or manual log books.
- Use the UN Mobility Booking Tool.
- Communicate using VHF/HF radio devices and mobile phones.
- Use tablets or mobile devices for route confirmation and data recording.
- Share knowledge and train junior drivers on safety, maintenance, and digital systems.
- Serve as a role model for ethical driving behavior.
- Support team briefings and participate in field transport debriefs.
- Enroll in relevant AGORA courses.
- Review updated UNICEF transport and safety guidelines.
- Participate in safety briefings and drills.
- Contribute feedback on transport procedures.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum three years of work experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy or UN system with a safe driving record is required.
- Relevant experience at country level, particularly in development, fragile settings and humanitarian contexts is desirable.
Qualification Requirements
A secondary education is required, along with a valid driver’s license and knowledge of local driving rules and regulations.
