Overview

The Assistant Information Systems Officer will participate in the design, development, installation, testing, and maintenance of information systems, ensuring data security and integrity. The role involves providing operational support, developing programs, and contributing to project planning and documentation.

Tasks Summary
  • Participates in preparing user requirements and technical specifications.
  • Assists in the design, development and installation of information systems.
  • Undertakes analysis of modules, develops enhancements and new features, and designs/implements small stand-alone systems.
  • Undertakes rigorous testing and proving of applications software.
  • Maintains assigned system portions, provides operational support, and analyzes/implements system changes/upgrades.
  • Participates in developing and maintaining Information Systems project plans, schedules, and budgets.
  • Writes and develops programs to interface with existing systems.
  • Ensures data security and integrity.
  • Participates in developing disaster recovery plans.
  • Prepares, updates and maintains system’s documentation and related technical/procedural manuals.
  • Assists in procurements, including needs assessments, benchmarks, and preparing technical specifications.
  • Assists in the set-up and monitoring of software performance measures.
  • Participates in Helpdesk support services.
  • Participates in facilitating communications between ITSD and clients.
  • Advises users on suitable hardware and software and maintains/enhances software.
  • Drafts training materials and conducts training sessions and demonstrations.
  • Participates with senior staff in assessing and testing new technology.
  • Performs ad hoc duties as required.
  • Contributes to data collection and analysis, identification of trends, and provides draft insights.
Experience Requirements

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in the planning, design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems or related area is required. The years of experience are reduced to 1 with a second level university degree (masters or equivalent). Experience working in an automated customs environment is desirable. Experience in supporting United Nations or similar international organization technical cooperation programmes is desirable. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Qualification Requirements

A first-level university degree in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics or related field, is required. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is an advantage.
