Overview

Coordinate communications and media activities to provide timely information to Movement partners and the media. Responsible for coordinating communications resources to produce and distribute materials highlighting the humanitarian situation, needs, and operations.

Tasks Summary

• Develop and implement integrated communications strategies and campaigns.
• Gather and disseminate accurate, compelling, and timely information.
• Oversee the production of high-quality communications and campaign materials.
• Produce and oversee the production of audio-visual materials.
• Develop and share engaging narrative content.
• Organize trainings, workshops and mentoring-sessions in communication.
• Foster strong relationships with National Societies, media outlets, and other partners.
• Support high-level visits and media-related requests.
• Represent IFRC in external forums and events.
• Support National Societies in planning and implementing targeted communication strategies.
• Proactively engage with local and international media.
• Monitor local media and social media.
• Respond to media requests promptly.
• Track and analyze campaign performance metrics.
• Use data to refine strategies and optimize communications.
• Document best practices and lessons learned.
• Anticipate, identify, and address potential reputational risks.
• Ensure the safety of IFRC and National Society staff and volunteers in media engagements.

Experience Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience working as a journalist/press officer and/or Communications officer.
• Ability to independently deliver a range of compelling communications content from the field including news stories, social media content and AV materials.
• Experience in managing communication issues in complex and delicate situations.
• Experience in building and maintaining media relations and contacts.
• Experience in emergency response.
• Red Cross and Red Crescent experience.

Qualification Requirements

• University degree in journalism, communications, marketing or international policies.
• IFRC Emergency Communications training.
• Basic Delegated Training Course or IMPACT.
• FACT, ERU or RDRT Training or equivalent experience.

Other Details

Languages Required: • Strong spoken and written English and Arabic including proven experience in drafting compelling communications content for a variety of communications channels. • Fluent spoken and written English and Arabic.

Languages Preferred: • Good command of another IFRC official language (French, Spanish or Arabic).

Contract Duration: 12 Months
