Overview

Provide substantive and administrative support to the management of the GEF Climate Change Enabling Activities Portfolio and contribute to the conceptualization and development of new Climate Change Enabling Activity project proposals.

Tasks Summary
  • Participate in project inception and Steering Committee meetings.
  • Monitor project progress and performance, and troubleshoot projects at risk.
  • Analyze project outputs and coordinate support to improve their quality.
  • Provide substantive support to project execution, ensuring adherence to UNEP and GEF criteria.
  • Coordinate reporting by project executing partners and consolidate progress reports.
  • Provide administrative support in maintaining project documentation.
  • Contribute to the adaptive management of projects.
  • Assist with the preparation of project revisions.
  • Provide substantive support for mid-term reviews and terminal evaluations.
  • Contribute to UNEP's climate change enabling activities portfolio strategy.
  • Contribute to the identification and development of new Enabling Activities concepts and project proposals.
  • Coordinate consultations with UNEP divisions and regional offices.
  • Provide substantive support in presenting concepts and projects for approval.
  • Assist in addressing UNEP, GEF Secretariat and STAP reviews.
  • Coordinate with Fund Management Officers.
  • Maintain communication with relevant government officials, research organizations, UN agencies, the GEF, and UNEP collaborating centers.
  • Guide consultants and government agency officials in developing project proposals.
  • Advise Governments on emerging GEF climate change enabling activity issues.
  • Contribute to Council document reviews.
  • Participate in UNEP and GEF-related meetings.
  • Contribute input on UNEP and GEF policy and information documents.
  • Provide substantive support to UNEP and GEF corporate evaluations.
  • Contribute to data collection and analysis, and identification of trends.
Experience Requirements
  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in climate change transparency project management is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in managing a portfolio of projects (concurrently managing four or more projects) is required.
  • Experience in engaging with government institutions in Least Developed Countries and Small Islands Developing States is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience working on climate change enabling activity projects in developing countries is required.
  • Experience with Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects is desirable.
  • 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Qualification Requirements

An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Engineering, Management, Development, Environment, Economics, Energy or Climate Change related field is required. A first-level university degree in the relevant field in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience maybe be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.
