Emmaus vzw Emmaus Volunteer opportunity: La Strada - groupwork

Tasks Summary

In the La Strada groupwork, you will carry out volunteer tasks with youngsters. Our young people experience difficulties in social skills, learning abilities, or other social or mental challenges. During the day, we offer various workshops such as sports, music, art, and more. Your role is to work together with the social workers and the youngsters to help provide and support these workshops. We work in a democratic environment, where youngsters have a voice and are encouraged to participate actively. Every week, we create a new activity program based on their input. During school holidays, the workshop is closed. However, you will have the opportunity to join outdoor camps with our youngsters and social workers. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements You will live in a studio in the city center of Antwerp or with a host family. Transport can be arranged by public transport or by bike, provided by our organisation. Food is available during the studio operation. In the free time or holidays you will get a food budget (not if you stay with host family) Training during the activity on arrival and mid term training, provided by our national agency Dutch lessons Basic training skills on how to work with youngsters Possibilitie on reflection on own skills Participant profile Minimum 20 years old - you like to work with disadvantaged young people between 12 and 18 years old. - you have social and interpersonal competences - you are creative, flexible, enthusiastic, engaging, empathic, open for new ideas, perseverant, curious and want to learn and develop - you are passionate about a certain activity or interest e.g. gardening, crafts like woodwork, music, sport, art, drama, ... - in time, you want to organize an atelier that is creative, inspiring and engaging youngsters - you want to learn new ways of approaching young people
