Overview

The Intern - Communications will support the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) in developing and implementing communication strategies and products to disseminate project results to various target audiences.

Tasks Summary
  • Develop and implement a social media content calendar.
  • Develop media products for web, social media, advertising, promotion, and broadcast media.
  • Create engaging social media posts across multiple platforms.
  • Monitor social media channels and respond appropriately.
  • Analyze social media performance metrics and provide recommendations.
  • Draft press releases, news articles, and other communications materials.
  • Support the development of communication materials such as brochures, flyers, and presentations.
  • Contribute to the creation of visual content, including infographics, photos, and videos.
  • Assist in the design and layout of documents and publications.
  • Assist in the organization of media events and press conferences.
  • Support the development of communication plans and strategies.
  • Support the graphic and content coverage of HUB Andean Countries events.
  • Support journalistic reports on online and offline platforms.
Experience Requirements

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. It is desirable that the applicant has experience with the United Nations or other international cooperation organizations.

Qualification Requirements
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), or
  • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Preferred areas of study: communications, journalism, public relations, and/or related areas.
  • Strong writing and editing skills in Spanish and English.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn) and content management systems.
  • Graphic design skills and proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva).
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in oral and written English and Spanish is required.

Languages Preferred: Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Contract Duration: 6 months

Work Modality: Hybrid

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
