Overview

This internship supports the United Nations Environment Programme's work in the Asia-Pacific region on financing energy transition and climate action.

Tasks Summary
  • Support financing energy transition initiatives such as Seed Capital Assistance Facility and EMPOWER.
  • Conduct research and scoping related to key actors in energy and climate finance.
  • Engage with private equity funds, venture capital funds, and project development companies.
  • Contribute to the regulatory policy side for UNEP FI, including work on central banks and net zero taxonomy.
  • Contribute to member capacity-building regarding transition finance.
  • Support event preparations for the UNEP-FI Global Roundtable.
  • Support Issue-based Coalitions in the Asia-Pacific Region by contributing to the preparation of the 2026 NDC Review Report.
  • Attend relevant events in Bangkok and possibly Southeast Asia.
  • Perform other tasks as agreed with the supervisor.
Experience Requirements

Prior experience in climate change and financing would be an advantage. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.

Qualification Requirements
  • Enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
  • Enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 1 year) from Master’s, or Ph.D. programme with a focus on Finance, Climate Change Financing or related area.
  • Field of study closely related to the type of internship.
  • Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
  • Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
  • Ability to design surveys and polls is desirable.
Other Details

Languages Required: Fluency in spoken and written English is required.

Work Modality:

Remuneration: Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
