Technical Advisor – Waste Management

Overview

Provide technical support for the implementation of the Municipal Solid Waste Plan and Municipal Sanitation Plan in São Paulo, ensuring alignment with UN-Habitat quality expectations and partner engagement.

Tasks Summary

• Offering technical support for the work developed by the UN-Habitat and São Paulo’s Municipality teams.
• Assisting in identifying complementary studies and proficiencies necessary for the technical work.
• Providing technical guidance for the solution study, and action plan of the Municipal Solid Waste Plan.
• Guiding analyses and formulate guidelines related to the management of urban solid waste.
• Provide technical support in the implementation of the project's products and provide technical oversight of product consultancies.
• Contributing to the exchange of information and provide input for the development of products.
• Supporting the revision of technical content prepared by the project team.
• Supporting project risk anticipation and mitigation.
• Providing information for the systematization and exchange of good practices and experiences.
• Ensuring that technical activities are aligned with the quality expectations of UN-Habitat and partners.
• Participating in meetings organized by partners.
• Participate in other meetings when requested by the project coordination.
• Perform other tasks that may be requested by the project coordination.

Experience Requirements

• Six (6) years of experience in project/programme management on issues related to urban and sanitation planning in Brazil is required.
• Professional and academic experience on themes related to solid waste management in Brazil is required.
• Professional experience in developing waste plans is desired.
• Professional experience in designing and conducting participatory activities is desired.
• Experience related to UN and/or any other international agency is desirable.

Qualification Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Sanitation Engineering, Environment Engineering, Civil Engineering, Urban Studies or related fields.
• Postgraduate degree (Lato Sensu or Stricto Sensu) in Waste Management, Sanitation Engineering, Environment Engineering, Civil Engineering, Public Administration, Public Policy, Urban Studies or related fields is required, or additional four (4) years of relevant experience to the post, beyond the requirement.

Remuneration: monthly allowance, upon presentation and approval by the Head of Brazil Office of monthly activities’ report. LICA 3/10 – part time 40% UNOPS Salary Scale
